John McInerney Obituary

John A. McInerney
of Lowell, MA.; 76

LOWELL -- John A. McInerney 76, of Lowell died unexpectedly on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Lowell General Hospital surrounded by his wife Maureen, family, and pastor. He was the son of the late Helen (Jones) and the late Joseph McInerney.

John was a graduate of Keith Acadamy class of 1953 and Boston College Class of 1957. While at Boston College John was a boxing instructor.

Teaching the neighborhood boys how to box was very rewarding and he always made sure they understood the importance of fighting fair and supporting the underdog. John and his brother William were part of the family business their parents started, McInerney Real Estate and Insurance on Appleton Street until the mid 1970's. John went on to be one of the founders of the Lowell Bank and Trust Company. He was also a former member of the Kiwanis Club. A long career of real estate, venture capital, and sales were very rewarding to John and he took great pleasure in helping people.

John enjoyed raising 3 children in Chelmsford MA. and West Hyannisport where the family resided and vacationed. He was an avid reader and he had a great connection to the water. He took many walks on the beaches of Cape Cod and the Merrimack river. He enjoyed tennis, boxing, and most of all baseball. John took great pride and pleasure in his grandchildren.

John will be truly missed by his loving wife Maureen ( Harrington ) McInerney of 12 years, his son Joseph P. of Colorado, daughter Sharon M. Litchfield of Wayland, and son John Christopher of Pepperell all children with his first wife Eva ( DeAngelo ) Wood, and his beloved grandchildren: Katelyn, Caroline and Kelly of Colorado, John Daniel of Dracut, and Bradford and grant of Wayland.

MCINERNEY -- There will be no calling hours. Funeral service will be held Friday, April 8, 2011, 11:00 am at the Congregational Church in North Chelmsford, 15 Princeton Street, North Chelmsford.

Maureen,so sad to hear of John's passing. The years that I spent as his visiting nurse were unforgettable.John was a truly a unique man,a gifted storyteller, and a kind man who frequently gave me guidance on whatever issues that I was dealing with at times. The two of you were very gracious and friendly to me over those years.I treasure the memories of our baseball and political discussions, his wicked sense of humor and his good nature through his own difficulties...A quick story...on one of my first visits to your house and before I really knew John, the phone rang looking for Mr.McInerney.John said,"hold on, he's just down the street,Ill run down and get him."He then placed the phone on the table and said,"they'll hang up when they get tired of waiting."He then gave me the devlish grin that I would come to know so well over the years. He was a character! I will keep you both in my prayers. Steve Wilson RN
