John Regan Obituary

John A. Regan lifelong Lowell resident, Navy Veteran; 83 Lowell Mr. John A. Regan, a life long resident of Lowell, died in Lowell, November 30, 2008 after a lengthy illness, aged 83 years. He was a highly decorated Navy Veteran of World War II, and Army Veteran of the Korean War. Born in Lowell on September 8th, 1925, the son of the late John P and Mary R (Doyle) Regan. He received his early education in the Lowell school system. He worked at the Merrimack Manufacturing Mills as a truck driver for a short period of time, prior to enlisting in the United States Navy. On September 7th he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during World War II. Mr. Regan was stationed on the U.S.S. Manileno he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theater Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal, and upon his discharge the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in May of 1946. While serving in the Navy, he was the Light Weight Boxing Champion of the Pacific Fleet a title that he was most proud of. In 1949 he enlisted in the United States Army, serving for over three years during the Korean War, he was awarded the Army Occupation Medal, Korean Service Medal with Two Bronze Stars, United Nations Service Medal, and a Presidential Unit Citation, he was honorably discharged in July of 1952. He retuned to Lowell and became associated with the Middlesex Paper Tube Company for a number of years, prior to his employment with the City of Lowell Water Department as a laborer for over thirty years, retiring in 1982. Since his retirement, he had worked as a security guard for a number of places, among them Joan Fabric's, retiring in 1991. He was an arm chair sports enthusiast, especially enjoying football, baseball and golf, but especially boxing. He is survived by one sister, Maureen Leo of Tyngsborough; one brother, Robert Regan and his wife Geraldine of Wellington, FL; four nieces, Deborah DeMauro of FL, Mary Erin Nelson and her husband Mark, Keri DeCastro all of FL and Lisa Golner and her husband Barry of Tyngsborough; seven nephews, Philip Leo of FL, David Leo and his wife Rachel of Tyngsboro, Stephen Leo of Hudson, NH Robert Regan of CA, James Regan and his wife Cheryl and Daniel Regan all of PA and Michael Regan and his wife Dana of Westford. Also by several great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins and many dear friends, especially those at the Horne Home. He was the brother of the late James R Regan and brother-in-law of the late Philip Leo. REGAN Died in Lowell, November 30, 2008 after a lengthy illness. John A. Friends will be received at the MORSE-BAYLISS FUNERAL HOME, 122 Princeton Blvd. at Chester and Harvard Sts., Thursday morning from 9:30am to 11am at which time his funeral service will take place.
