Lois Weir Obituary

Chelmsford

Lois Ann (Smith) Weir, age 70, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 30, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late William G. Weir with whom she enjoyed 29 years of marriage until his passing in 2002.

She was born in Louisville, KY on May 15, 1953 and was the daughter of the late Wilmur and Betsy (Bridges) Smith.

Lois was a devoted mother and wife. When her girls were little she stayed home to raise them and volunteered at their school. She worked for many years as a Manager at Pages Drug Store in Chelmsford where she was in charge of ordering all of the best candy there was available. After Pages sold, she began her career at Lowell General Hospital where she was entering her 30th year as a switchboard operator! She loved to tell stories of her and her beloved husband and truly lived for her Grandchildren – even jumping into action to save them from bees and became lovingly known as the Beekeeper. Her Grandchildren all called her by different names, The Grandmother, Buffalicious, WoWo and Old Grammy. She didn't care what they called her, as long as they called. Her family was truly blessed to have surprised her with a trip to London this past April where she went on a Beatles tour in Liverpool and fulfilled a lifelong dream. She always said that she would only leave our father for Paul McCartney so we weren't sure what would have happened if Paul was visiting the area where he grew up while we were there.

Lois is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Prince and her husband, Brett, of Hudson, NH and Melanie Fenochetti of Dracut, MA; her most beloved "people" her grandchildren, Matthew Medeiros Jr, and his partner Amanda Flohr, Frankie Fenochetti, Mia Fenochetti and Kayla Prince, and her partner Patrick; her Great-Grandsons, Chace and Jackson Murphy; her brothers, James Smith (Elizabeth) and Jon Smith (Valerie); as well as many nieces and nephews. She had a very special bond with her "work acquaintances" and she was so lucky to have you in her life along with the many lifelong friends that she would chat for hours with.

In addition to her late husband and parents, Lois is predeceased by her grandchildren, Colin, William and Liliana Fenochetti and her brothers, William Smith and Michael Smith.

Visiting Hours will be held on Saturday, September 9th from 9am to 10:30am at the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD followed by a Funeral Service at 11am at the funeral home. Interment in Pine Ridge Cemetery, CHELMSFORD. Memorial donations may be made in Lois's memory to the March of Dimes (marchofdimes.org). Funeral Directors Paul A. Hardy, Jr. & Jennifer Lebaropoulos Hardy. For directions and online guestbook, visit CHELMSFORDFUNERALHOME.COM and find us on Facebook.

I worked with Lois at LGH and through all the craziness the hospital could throw at us Lois was a delight. I am truly sorry to read of her passing.

Lois was very kind to us when we first moved here from New York way back in '81. My daughter was just a baby and she kindly came over and used to check on us and visit. In recent years I had not seen her too much but she always had a smile and a wave, a good lady gone way too soon! Bless you neighbor! Pam Moyer
