Louise,
I can truly say I know what you are going through and it is absolutely positively horrible. Please know that even though it doesn't seem it,it will get mre bearable over time. When I lost my mom 9 months ago, I didnt think I would be able to breathe with out her much less carry on with life. You too will find a place of peace when you are ready, it make take months or even years but you will find it. It doesnt mean it's easier, it's not, but you learn to live your day to day life with out them, and re-focus on your survivng parent and your children.
Keep in touch, and please le t me know if you ever need to talk. Also remember: god does not give you more hen you can handle!
