Mary Magdalen Gagnon

of Chelmsford, MA

Mary Magdalene (Delaney) Gagnon of Chelmsford died Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Courville Nursing Home, Nashua, NH.

She was married to the late Donald Gagnon who died in June of 1978.

Born in Lowell, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Magdalene (Finn) Delaney. She graduated from Westford Academy with the class of 1947 and from the Bradshaw Business College in Lowell with the class of 1949.

Mary had an illustrious career fighting and striving for the rights of the elderly, she was a pioneer for the elderly housing programs, serving on boards such as the Legislative Council of Older Americans and the Board of Directors for Mental Health Association. Mary was one of the founding members of the Senior Citizens Club of Greater Lowell.

She worked at Community Teamwork of Lowell as a Director of Elderly Services until her retirement in 1996.

Mary was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church of Chelmsford.

She is survived by a son, Gary Gagnon of Hudson, NH; four daughters, Marylyn and her husband David Collins of Groton, Margaret Carney of Old Orchard Beach, ME, Donna Gagnon of Lowell, and Kayrn Gagnon of Hudson, NH; a daughter-in-law, Susan Gagnon of N. Andover, MA, many grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mary was the mother of the late Kevin Gagnon, the mother-in-law, of the late Ann Marie Gagnon and the late Wayne Carney, and the sister of the late Catherine Harper and the late (Ret) Col. Francis Delaney.

The family would like to thank the staff at Courville Nursing Home for all the loving care they provided Mary.

There will be no visiting hours. Funeral Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at 8am from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 9am at Saint John the Evangelist Church in N.
