Maurice Cohen Obituary
Andover
Maurice Cohen, age 100, of Andover passed away on June 3, 2021, in Boston, Massachusetts after a brief illness.
Born in New England, he was the son of the late Jacob Cohen and Jennie (Black) Cohen. Mr. Cohen was predeceased by his siblings Israel Cohen, Thenia Cohen, Sarah Cohen, Melvin Cohen, Theodore Cohen and Edith Cohen. He is survived by his long-time companion Helen Laybold.
Mr. Cohen and his late brothers Israel "Ike" and Theodore "Teddy" Cohen were the owners and operators of Northeast Radio, Inc. doing business as 980 WCAP radio station in Lowell, Massachusetts for over 60 years. Mr. Cohen was the President of Northeast Radio from 1994 until he sold the business in 2008. 980 WCAP broadcast with 5,000 watts of power. Mr. Cohen was involved in all aspects of the business, from managing content, hiring employees, advertising and infrastructure, including as needed personally climbing the radio tower for maintenance and repairs.
Services will be held at the Montefiore Cemetery 46 Pulpit Rock Road (off Rte 38), Pelham, NH on Friday, July 23 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. For directions or online condolences go to: www.goldmanfc.com. He was the person who first hired me at WCAP. He ran it like a family business, which of course it was. He was truly dedicated to local radio as a community resource. I will always be grateful to him, as I´m sure the entire Merrimack Valley is.
