Michael Regan Obituary

Michael "Mike" "Tanka" P. Regan

WELLINGTON AND LOWELL, MA -- Michael Philip Regan, 65, died Sept 15, 2014 peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was born April 13, 1949 in Lowell, MA a son of Paul E. and Mary V. (Goulding) Regan.

Mike grew up in Lowell, MA attending Keith Academy, Lowell and graduating from Newman Prep, Boston and attended Mt. Wachusette College, Gardiner, MA. He moved to Wellington in the late 1970s, making his home and raising his children. Mike will be fondly and lovingly remembered for his story telling ability, humorous quick wit, and loving spirit. He was an avid sports fan, with a love for the Patriots and Red Sox. He enjoyed harness racing, and had a love for music, especially Van Morrison. He loved the woods and the land and was a gentleman farmer.

Above all else, family was important to Mike. Material items never mattered as long as the love of his family was present. He truly loved his family and extended family. He was his kids' first coach and would meet each one at the edge of the ball field, Gatorade in hand. Later in life he became Grampy, and then GG, and each child held a special place in his heart.

He is survived by his loving wife and soulmate of 43 years, Thelma M. (Shottes) Regan; five children Argo Michael Regan and his wife Betsy of Old Town; Kif A. Lopez and her husband Ramiro of Lawndale, CA, Paul E. Regan and his wife Beth of Dayton; Cassady G. Regan and Bryant Farrar of Center Pond; and Colita B. Pica and her husband Jason of Portland; nine grandchildren Dyanne Gillespie-Regan and partner Travis Patterson, Amanda Cleary and her husband Balakw, Adam and Nate Regan; Alyssa, Christopher and Liam Lopez, Acadia and Finnegan Regan; a great- granddaughter Mackenzie; a sister Sally Slattery and her husband Bud of Hampton Beach, NH; brother Mark Regan and his wife Rhonda of Lowell, MA; aunt Ann King of Nashua, NH, many nieces, nephews, and a very large extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers Francis, Paul, and Philip and one sister Marie Claremont.

REGAN -- Friends may call 4-8 Friday at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A celebration of Mike's life will be conducted 1PM Saturday at the Burdin's Corner Chapel, Parkman Road, Wellington. Burial will follow at Burdin's Corner Cemetery. Thelma, I only just heard. So sorry for the pain you must be feeling.
I remember everything, the good and bad,and am absolutely certain that the good Michael garnered and gave in the last 40 years was because you were by his side loving him.
We stumbled through much confusion together and although I hadn't been in touch I never doubted he was there and would be ready to stand with me if needed. Michael was that type of man. My world is lonelier now that he's gone.

Thelma, I remember you as a friend of my sister Helen, such a beautiful person. And of course, Tanka and my brother Tom, aka Spaz, knew each other since being classmates at St. Margaret's Grammar School, Keith Academy and then as roommates at Mt Waschusset. All the time they spent at Brunelles, Highland Park, Byrnes. Tanka was always fun to talk with, his personality larger than life.
It looks like you and Tanka had a wonderful, remarkable life together.
May all your memories sustain you and your family.

Dear Regan Family, My family's thoughts and prayers are with you. From the time I started playing middle school baseball, Mike had always gone out of his way to give advice, tell stories and share a friendly smile. Even now as an adult I was always greeted with a smile and "How are you doing, Erick" when running into him at the IGA or around town. Mike's simple and thoughtful actions have been shared with so many people, and we have all been blessed to have been part of his life. He made a huge impact on the community around him and he will be missed dearly.

Never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Regan; but worked closely with his wife and, "Behind every good woman, is a good man." So I know both are true. The world is a lesser place and Heaven a greater one, because he's not with us. God bless all of us that remain and those blessed by knowing you. Wish I could have been one, but I'll meet you in a better place. Until then, save us a seat at his table.
