Nicholas Lupoli Obituary

SALEM, N.H. - Nicholas A. Lupoli, 61, of Salem, a former 35-year Chelmsford resident who along with his sons started the area's well-known Sal's Pizza chain, died Wednesday, July 30, at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. He was the husband of Jeannette M. (Cefalo) Lupoli.

He was born in Boston on April 13, 1942, son of Gelsimina "Mary" (Matterese) Lupoli of Winthrop, Mass., and the late Salvatore J. Lupoli. He lived in Salem for the past two years.

Mr. Lupoli was a longtime entrepreneur before starting Sal's Pizza with his sons. The business has grown into over 25 retail stores, many throughout Greater Lowell, and includes Mary's Pasta and Deli and Sal's Kitchen.

Mr. Lupoli enjoyed traveling, sports, and horses.

Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by six sons, Salvatore N. Lupoli and his wife Kati of Chelmsford, Nicholas A. Lupoli Jr., Michael A. Lupoli and his wife Kerry, and James J. Lupoli, all of Salem, N.H., John D. Lupoli of Lowell, and William P. Lupoli of Haverhill, Mass.; two sisters, Sylvia Paci and her husband Dominic of Wakefield, Mass., and Joan Lupoli of Winthrop, Mass.; 15 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He also leaves several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Uncle Nicky will be missed by so many. This is a terrible loss and a very sad time for us all. I am so glad that you were able to visit with us during your last visit to Florida and that Uncle Nicky was able to meet and spend some time w/Haleigh. That means a lot to me.
