Parker Gates Obituary

DRACUT - Parker E. Gates Sr., 86, a longtime Dracut resident who had owned a transportation business and was a former shipyard electrician, died Wednesday, July 3, at the Apple Valley Nursing & Rehab. Center in Ayer after a long illness. He was the husband of Dorothy (White) Gates, who died in 1990.

He was born in Leicester on Aug. 23, 1915, son of the late Frank S. and Evelyn (Godfrey) Gates.

Mr. Gates resided in Dracut for most of his life and he attended the Dracut Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Prior to his retirement, he was the owner and operator of Gates Transportation. Prior to that, he was an electrician at the Boston Naval Shipyard for 35 years.

He is survived by a son, Parker S. Gates, with whom he resided in Dracut; two daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn and James Anastas of Panama City, Fla., and Geraldine and Peter DiZoglio of Cambridge, N.Y.; a sister, Dorothy Gates of Worcester; as well as five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
