AYER
Chief Paul B. Fillebrown, 82, AFD (ret), of Ayer, died Sunday, September 10, 2023 at Apple Valley Center, Ayer. Paul was born in Ayer, August 2, 1941, one of three sons born to Albert L. and Leah P. (Lufkin) Fillebrown and was a lifelong Ayer resident. While in high school, Paul was a member of the basketball and baseball teams and was voted the Friendliest Member of his class. Following his 1959 graduation from Ayer High School, Paul went to work at the Hartnett Tannery in Ayer until its closing in 1961. Paul then went to work at the Boston Gas Company where he held several positions until his retirement in 1992. Paul's service to the Ayer Fire Department began as a call firefighter in 1962 and concluded in 2006 as Chief of Department. He dedicated 44 years of service to the Town of Ayer, as he rose from the rank of firefighter to chief. He was an active member of the International Fire Chiefs Association and the Massachusetts Fire Chiefs Association, serving on the Board of Directors from 1999 to 2005. He was a member of the Ayer Gun & Sportsman's Club. Additionally, he was instrumental in the formation of the Saturday morning youth recreation league basketball program in Ayer. He coached several youth sports teams and also served as an elected Commissioner member of the Ayer Parks & Recreation Department. He enjoyed giving back to his community and making memories with the people he loved. In his free time, he enjoyed being with his family and friends at York and Old Orchard Beach, Maine. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Carolyn J. (Campbell) Fillebrown; his daughter, Diane J. Fillebrown of Ayer; his son and daughter in law, Paul B. Fillebrown Jr. and his wife, Debra of Ayer; his granddaughter and her fiancé, Ally Fillebrown and J.C. Marcone of Franklin; and his grandson Ryan Fillebrown of Worcester. He also leaves his sister in law, Rebecca Michaud and her partner, Ronnie Pitisci of Shirley; his brother in law, Kelly Campbell and his wife, Donna of Biloxi, MS; along with several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late David L. Fillebrown of Ayer and John P. Fillebrown of Warner, NH.
Paul's family will receive relatives and friends at calling hours from 4-7 PM Thursday, September 14, 2023 at the Anderson Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Road, (Rte 2A) Ayer. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Friday, September 15, 2023 in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
