Gramp,
As you know I got married this weekend and as Erin slid your wedding band on to my finger, there was a sense of pride and happiness that was overwhelming. I will wear it as you did and try to be the husband that you were. Thank you for being my best man and watching over my ceremony. I love you and miss you.

Dear Dad,
Dempsey in life, lion in winter, husband of the most lovely Mom of all, beloved father, grandfather, essence and spirit of life: we will miss your robust songs, your felling of proud oaks to clear the land, the forever drive in the big Lincoln, the beans, tomatoes, peppers enough for the town, a coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts, a flea market foray, a life that spanned Great Wars, a life begun and ended with Boston Red Sox titles - and all the rest. Now, all the rest to you dear soul. There was such life in your stay with us and it’s hard to say so long. And yet, your last song to us: so long we must. I love you, Johnny

I first learned of Paul's kind, caring and gentle ways the night I sat with him before his kidney surgery many years ago. He had been a patient of mine that day. He was scared about the surgery, but he was more concerned about his family and how they were all handling everything. We went on to become friends. I will always cherish getting to know Evelyn and I feel as though I know his children because of Paul's "stories". Since that day Paul has endured many health problems and always come through. His battle is over and he leaves us all with so many memories to help us through the rough times.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers and know, I will forever treasure the friendship I gained from my "patient" Paul.
Love and Prayers,
Bill

Gramp:
I want to thank you for allowing me to be a part of your family, you always made me feel more like one of your sons than just simply your son-in-law and your passing is felt by me just as much as it is by your own children and I will miss you just as much as they do.
Please do me one more favor, when you get to your destination please say hello to my mother for me.

I am so sorry to hear that your father is no longer with us. I try to keep up with things via the internet. I am sure most of your family will not remember me, but my prayers are with them and you.

Paul: The passage of time will lessen the grief that was so evident at your eloquent services. You were the foundation upon which your family and extended family was built and you will remain in the hearts of all that loved you so much. We thought of you as a very close friend. So many people go through life without good friends that we feel we were blessed to have known you. There is a big void in our lives but knowing that you have now exchanged that old rugged cross for a crown will sustain us until we meet again. Goodbye dear friend.

We loved "Gramp." His smile, interest in us, sense of humor and love for others always touched us. We appreciated his friendship with Dotty's parents at the church suppers. We all will miss him greatly.

I will miss Paul’s “Hello, Anne-Marie” as he walked up the back steps to Tina’s house. I am so glad that I had the pleasure of knowing him and the value he placed on family. I was reading a book awhile back when I came across a sentence that brought Paul and my friend Tina to mind… “A daughter needs a Dad to teach her that loving her family is a priority.” Paul will be missed, but always remembered in my heart.

Paul was always a wonderful neighbor to us. We'll miss his friendly greetings to us as he passed our house almost every day. Our conversations were always meaningful and sincere.
We will certainly miss his prolific garden offerings, especially his varied strains of tomatoes and hot peppers. What a lovely man. Our lives and our children's lives were certainly enriched by knowing him. We will miss you, Paul.

My wife and I both enjoyed being neighbors to "Mr. Hayes" as we always referred to him. A great man who always stopped by to chat on his daily walks or to check in and make sure we were well.
We will miss his cupcakes and tomatoes he always left on the porch. The people of Goldsmith Street and Newtown Road will miss our unofficial patrolman.
We will miss our neighbor but we will always have fond memories of him.
