LOWELL -- Raymond E. "Sonny" Carignan Jr., a lifelong resident of Lowell, died January 10, 2014, in Lowell, after a period of declining health, aged 78 years.

Born in Lowell, June 19, 1935, he was a son of the late Raymond R. Sr. and Rita (McKlusky) Carignan. He received his education in the Lowell school system.

Mr. Carignan was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War.

After proudly serving his country, Sonny worked at several local mills before becoming associated with the former Barretto Granite Quarry in Milford, New Hampshire, as a stone cutter, until his retirement in 1993.

Once touted by the Lowell Sun as the next "Dick Weber", Raymond was an accomplished ten pin bowler during the early 60s, and a lifelong fan of all local professional sports teams.

Most of all, he loved to spend time with family and friends.

He is survived by a brother, Dennis Carignan and his wife, Georgienna of Lowell. Also by two nieces, Audry Briere and her husband, Wayne, and Susan Avery and her husband, Darren; two great-nieces, Jessica Briere and Megan Avery, and four great-nephews, Darren Briere, Wayne Briere Jr., Sebastian Briere, and Jacob Avery, all of Lowell.
