CHELMSFORD - Raymond A. Millette, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, died November 6, 2013, aged 86 years. He was the beloved husband of Susan (Stanley) Millette, with whom he celebrated 40 years of marriage this past July 29th.
Born in North Chelmsford on December 11, 1926, a son of the late Joseph William and Marie Ann (Frechette) Millette. He received his early education at the St. Patrick School, Lowell, and furthered his education at Northeastern University of Management and the Lehigh University of Mechanical Engineering.
He enlisted in the United States Army on January 12, 1945, serving with the Recovered Personnel Division, Western Pacific Forces, as an Automotive Equipment Mechanic, until his honorable discharge on December 5, 1946. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Philippines Independence Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Medal.
Upon his return from military service, Ray worked for the Ford Motor Company in Somerville, until the plant closed in 1958. He then became associated with Microwave Associates in Burlington as a Shop Clerk and Tool Crib Manager, where he was later promoted to Machine Shop Manager, a position he held for 20 years until he retired in 1979.
After leaving Microwave Associates, Ray and Sue relocated to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Soon after settling in, Ray decided it was too early to retire, and accepted the role of purchasing agent with Wilson Concepts in Pompano Beach. They returned to Massachusetts in 1983, and Ray became employed as the Head Groundskeeper of the Middlesex School in Concord, and also managed the Pratt Hockey Rink, until 1994. That same year, Ray was elected to the Frank J. Zamboni Memorial Hall of Fame by the Northeast Ice Skating Managers Association for his dedicated service.
Ray was a life member of the VFW Walker Rogers Post 662 in Lowell, where he was a Trustee and Captain of the Honor Guard. In his role with the Honor Guard, Ray participated in countless parades and dedications, and honored hundreds of fallen veterans in the Greater Lowell Area. He also held memberships in the American Legion Post 212 in Chelmsford, and the American Society of Tool and Manufacturing Engineers.
Mr. Millette was a sports enthusiast who especially enjoyed baseball and football. He also loved to camp and hunt. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the North American Hunters Association.
Ray was a kind, generous man who loved to spend time with his family, especially his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at the VNA Care Network & Hospice of Worcester for the loving care they provided Ray during his illness.
Besides his loving wife, Sue, he is survived by four sons, David Millette and his companion, Donna of Nashua, NH, Steven Millette and his wife, Donna of Chester, NH, Raymond Millette of Chelmsford, and Joseph Millette and his wife, Vanessa of Salem, NH; five precious grandchildren; Tony Millette and his wife, Natasha of Alabama, Deana Manning and her husband, John of Bedford, NH, Kayla Millette of Lowell, Taylor Skabo and Olivia Millette, both of Salem, NH; and two great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Manning and Brayden Manning, both of Bedford, NH.
He was the father of the late, Ramy and Donn Millette, and brother of the late Loretta Duprez.
