Richard B. Holmes
of N. Chelmsford, WWII vet; 83

N. CHELMSFORD -- Mr. Richard B. Holmes, of N. Chelmsford, MA, formerly of Newton, MA, died early Saturday, November 20, 2010, at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA.

He was married to Mrs. Janet (Wilson) Holmes with whom he celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on September 27, 2010.

Richard was born in Newton, MA on December 15, 1926, the son of the late Ralph W. and Grace (Eckman) Holmes.

He was a graduate of Newton High School.

He served with the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific.

Richard retired in 1989 from Burke Distributors of Randolph, MA where he was a warehouse manager.

He was a member of the Newton Elks and the Auburndale Club Players. Richard was a charter member of the WWII Museum. He enjoyed golfing, ice skating, sailing and fishing on Lake Winnipesaukee, NH. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriot fan. Richard was formerly active in youth organizations with his sons.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Cynthia M. and Glen Sullivan of Chelmsford, and Suzanne and Scott Sorensen of Hubbardston, MA, three sons and their wives, Richard B. and Johanna Holmes of Acton, MA, Stephen E. and Deborah Holmes of Framingham, MA, and Jeffrey and Kathleen Holmes of Westwood, MA; a brother and
sister-in-law, Robert and Dolores Wilson of Framingham, MA; and eight grandchildren, Julie Holmes-Sherman, Matthew, Michael and Nicholas Holmes all of Acton, MA, Trevor and Scotlyn Sullivan of Chelmsford, MA, Kyle Sorensen of Hubbardston, MA, and Jamie Holmes of Framingham, MA.

Richard is also survived by many nieces and nephews; as well as many close friends.

HOLMES -- Mr. Richard B. Holmes, of N. Chelmsford, MA, formerly of Newton, MA, died Nov. 20, 2010. Visiting hours Mon. 3 to 7 p.m. at DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX STREET, CHELMSFORD. Funeral Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial in Bourne National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
