He was born in Somerville on Dec. 31, 1936, son of the late John D. and Rose (Cleary) Thibedeau. He was raised in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School. He raised his family in Tewksbury, and moved to Pasco, Wash., before returning to Lowell several years ago.
During the Vietnam War, Mr. Thibedeau served in the Army.
Before retiring, he was employed as a pipe fitter, and was a member of the Pipe Fitter's Boston Local 537.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Post 110 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8164 in Tewksbury. He also was a member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks and the East End Club in Lowell.
His survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Jane and Harry Leather of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jill Thibedeau of Lowell; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert Thibedeau Jr. of Hillsboro, N.H., Michael and Jacqueline (Sutton) Thibedeau of Londonderry, N.H., and Daniel Thibedeau of Derry, N.H.; 10 grandchildren, Holly Shannon, Jacki Thibedeau, Drake Luongo and Jake Luongo, all of Lowell, Ashley Thibedeau, Jessica Leather, Danielle Leather and Jennifer Leather, all of Florida, and Michael Thibedeau and Shelby Thibedeau, both of Londonderry, N.H.; a great-granddaughter, Victoria; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Joan Amerault of Littleton, and Sharyn and William Woodman of Revere; his former wife, Jane F. (Woodman) Carbone of Florida; also many nieces and nephews.
