DRACUT -- Stella (Kapetanakis) Niarhos, 94, of Dracut, passed away peacefully, Friday morning, August 11, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Costas Niarhos with whom she shared 57 loving years of marriage.

Stella was born in her Dracut, Massachusetts home on April 12, 1923. She was the daughter of the late John and Virginia Kapetanakis and the sister of the late George Kapetankis, the late Peter Kapetankis, Chris Kapetnakis, the late Mary Kapetankis, Hericula Kapetanakis, and the late James Kaptanakis.

Having grown up in Dracut her entire life, Stella graduated from Dracut High School. She then completed one full year at Lowell Tech (now know as UMass Lowell). Due to family obligations she then quit Lowell Tech, to ensure that her brothers could complete their college educations. She made this sacrifice to help pay for their educations instead of her own. In order to pay for their education she worked as a seamstress for 30 years in the Lowell Mills. One brother, Peter, became a pharmacist, her other brother, Chris, became a chemical engineer, and her youngest brother, Jim, became a banker. Education was of the utmost importance for Stella. Her greatest pride and joy was her son, Peter. She was so proud that she had ensured that he become a doctor. She has also had the benefit of watching her two granddaughters: Alexandra and Jacquelyn graduate college, while watching her grandson, Costas, have one more year of college to go.

Stella is survived by her son Dr. Peter C. Niarhos and his wife Tina Niarhos of Dracut; her sister Hericula and her brother Chris; her three beloved grandchildren, Alexandra, Jacquelyn, and Costas Niarhos. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

NIARHOS -- A small private service was held on Monday, August 14th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stella's name to: The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
