He was born in Winchester, son of Lori Richard and her longtime companion, Robert DePiano of North Andover, and Robert Richard Jr. and his fiancée, Kimberly Henderson of Wilmington. He grew up in Billerica, Wilmington and North Andover. He graduated from Greater Lawrence Vocational School in Andover in 2006. He was currently attending Central Maine College in Auburn, Maine.
Stephen loved to compete and he always wanted to be the best. He had a passion for water-skiing and wakeboarding and at the age of 13, he was the national champion for his age bracket in wakeboarding, family members said.
He loved Motocross and won numerous events. He competed in skimobile racing as well. He worked as a mechanic and was always improving and polishing his cars and motorcycle. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his many friends and family. He was the type of person who extended himself to others and he will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
Besides his mother, her companion, his father and his father's fiancée, he is survived by his brothers, Anthony and Jonathan Richard of North Andover; his longtime girlfriend, Maritza Teurell; his grandparents, Catherine and Richard Romano of Tewksbury, and Robert and Janice Richard of Burlington; and his aunts and uncles, Clorinda Romano of Wakefield, Dr. Annette McDonough of Burlington, James Richard of Dracut, Brenda Anderson of Burlington, Cheryl and Dave Green of Reading, and John Richard of Billerica.
He also leaves many cousins and friends.

So many years have gone by since I've seen his face. I think of him often with great love! As his anniversary approaches I send love to his family and pray, that as with me, time has healed the pain and allowed the love of Stephen to fill his empty space.

Kim & Bob,Lori & Bobby, Jon, Anthony and all of Stephen's family, I extend to you my deepest sympathy. I also thank you, all, for sharing your child with me and allowing me to love him and be loved by him. He was such a fun boy...always up to something and usually, it involved my Rob and your Anthony getting into trouble with him too! I have so many wonderful memories of Steve and I will cherish them. I pray that your pain eases, and with time you also will be able to remember back on Stephen's life with joy and warmness. Bob, you were his dad and his best friend - what a wonderful relationship you two had. May God be with you all.

You are constantly in my thoughts and prayers. Steve was a great kid, always friendly and happy. He was kind to help me a few times. He was always good to Jake (even though Jake was so quiet!). I know you will miss him terribly, but hold on to all the wonderful memories you were able to share over the years, and he will forever be with you.

My deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to all of you. I had the pleasure of knowing Stephen since the 5th grade. Stephen was a favorite student of mine in the DARE class. He even managed to convince me to drive to Tyngsboro and watch him compete on the water. We lost contact for a few years and when we met again Stephen still treated me with the same respect he always did. I'm sure he will be missed by many. I will keep him and all of you in my prayers.

Dear Bob and Kim,
So sorry for your loss.
We hadn't gotten a chance to meet Stephen yet but have heard alot of nice things from Aunt Lilly. We just want you both and your family to know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers as is Stephen.
We will remember him always with our prayers. Please take care of yourselves and try to remember he is in a good place, he will always be close in your hearts and in the memories that you'll one day be able to talk about. We are here if there is anything we can do.

Stephen and I were not very close but we did share some good times talking about motocross. Stephen also is the man that got me involved in motocross and I would just like to dedicate my season to him and while I'm racing he will be in my mind as well my heart. Last of all I just want to say thanks to Steve for the good times and getting me involved in a great sport.
Thanks Steve!

Stephen,
You will be missed deeply, we had some "interesting" times here on Adams St. LOL! You were a wonderful person and we were all so proud of your accomplishments. Jonny is heartbroken and misses you terribly. You were the one who got him into motocross and he looked up to you so much, he use to hang on every word when you talked about bikes. Jonny will also be dedicating his race season in your memory. We love you so much.
Love Always,
Alison & Jonny
