Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather
LOWELL
Walter "Jerry" Dockett, 81, of Tewksbury, MA passed away on August 26, 2023 at Lowell General Hospital surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Mary (Sousa) Dockett, the love of his life, with whom he would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 5, 2024.
He was born in
Lowell, Massachusetts on October 3, 1941, a birthday he shared with his son. He was the son of Walter and Margaret (Teague) Dockett. He lived in
Lowell, MA for over 70 years before moving to Tewksbury, MA in 2014.
He was a graduate of Sacred Heart School, Keith Academy, attended Merrimack College, received his ASEE and later received an Honorary Bachelor's Degree from Wentworth Institute.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish his entire life until its' closing in 2004. He was then a member of Holy Family and more recently the Immaculate Conception Parish. He served as the President of the Parish Council and was a Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart Parish.
For over 50 years he was involved with the youth of the parish and the community serving as Director of Youth Activity at Sacred Heart Parish and Director of Confirmation at both Sacred Heart and Holy Family Parishes. Outside of his parish activities he was the North Middlesex Director of CYO Basketball for the Archdiocese of Boston and President of the Oliveria Little League in
Lowell, MA. Two honors which he was extremely proud of was being recognized with the "God and Youth" Award from the Archdiocese of Boston and being inducted into the Archdiocese of Boston CYO Hall of Fame.
He truly enjoyed watching and attending Celtics, Patriots and Red Sox games with his family. His passion for travel included taking cruises with his wife Mary and friends to Bermuda, Florida, and the Eastern, Western and Southern Caribbean. In his retirement he took cruising to the next level and worked for Cruises, Inc. selling cruises to family and friends.
He began his professional career at Mathatronics, the first desktop computer company, and then moved to other electronic and computer companies before finally joining Raytheon Company in 1973. He retired from there 33 years later after rising through the ranks and completing his career as the Reliability Manager at the Lowell Plant. While at Raytheon he travelled extensively throughout the United States.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Sousa) Dockett of 59 years, his three children and five granddaughters: Karen and her husband Michael Dumont along with their daughter Ashley Dumont of Tewksbury, MA whom he lived with for the last ten years, his son Bryan and his wife Kerry (Haughey) Dockett and their daughters Brenna (Alexandria, VA) and Bridget Dockett of
Valhalla, NY and his daughter Kim Peirce and her daughters Jacqueline and Riley Peirce of
Lowell, MA.
His granddaughters were the love of his life and he enjoyed everything he did with them from picking them up at school, attending sporting events, family trips or just having them all together at his house. He even wore all their college and high school shirts everyday to show how proud he was of all of them.
He is survived by many relatives both locally and across the United States.
The family wishes to thank the staff at D'Youville Senior Care for their compassionate care over the past nine months taking care of their Dad and Grandfather.
Family and friends may call at THE FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET IN LOWELL on WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 30, 2023 from 4 until 8 PM.
Jerry's FUNERAL will begin on THURSDAY MORNING at 10 o'clock from the Funeral Home, followed by his FUNERAL MASS at 11 o'clock at THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, 144 E. Merrimack St. Lowell. Burial will take place in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Lowell.
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Jerry's memory to the Oblates Novitiate Infirmary Fund, 486 Chandler St. Tewksbury, MA 01876. If flowers are sent, please omit lilies dues to allergies.
