Alice Kintzele Obituary

Alice C. Kintzele, 89, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2021, at 9:43 a.m. in Franciscan Health Michigan City.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am, Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Buffalo and 10th streets, Michigan City, Indiana, with Rev. Kevin Huber officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, and from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana.

She was born July 18, 1931, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Alton G. and Mary Gladys (Leggett) Bendix, Sr.

Surviving are five children, Carol Kelly of Jacksonville, Florida, James (Kay) Kintzele, Jr. of Chesterton, Indiana, Mary Kay (Timothy) Mark of Trail Creek, Indiana, Judy (Matthew) Hillmann of Three Oaks, Michigan, and Ann (Peter) Chen of Long Grove, Illinois; grandchildren, Joshua (Laura) Kelly, Hope (Justin Deleo) Kelly, Joseph Kelly, Jenny (Nate) Orsburn, James (Kara) Kintzele, III, Kathryn (Jordan) Gwiazdon, Cara (Steve) Smith, Zachary (Angela) Mark, Kellie (Matthew) Duncan, Benjamin (Heather) Hillmann, Abraham Hillmann, Allie (James) Plessinger, Alexander Paterakis, Nicholas (Alyssa) Paterakis, Emma Paterakis, Jen Meyer, Kate (Mitch) Chmielarz and Kirsten (Fabrice) Lespinasse; and great-grandchildren, Lily, Dominick, Persephone, Sebastian, Jakob, Sydney, Lauren, Jaime, Skye, Evie, Calvin, Emily, Lucy, Maggie, Elliot, Samuel, Nora, Albert, Madison, Olivia, Fischer, Lydia, Logan, Eleanor, Violet, Everett, Genevieve, Elisabeth, Elinor, Natascha and Raphael.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Alton "Pat" Bendix, Jr.; and former spouse and father of her children, James Kintzele, Sr.

Alice had worked as a clerk at Division of Family and Children Services and also worked at Walgreens. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Rosary Sodality and was a St. Anthony Hospital's Guild Pin Lady for many years. She was a proud Girl Scout leader and served as a member of the Michigan City Housing Authority for several years.

Alice was known to be a seamstress with never-ending talents. Crafting for the holidays, birthdays, weddings or births was second nature to her. She loved to see the joy her special gifts gave to her lucky recipients. She encouraged her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to be creative as well. She was truly "Alice the Great!"
