Charles W. Ponder, age 82, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, surrounded by his family.
He was born on May 30, 1942, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Ferris Ponder and Anna (Morgan) Sydow, who have preceded him in death.
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Eloise (Snyder) Ponder; children, Judy (Mark) Hensell, Charles R. (Sheryl) Ponder, Donna Ordziejewski, Brian (Pamela) Ponder and Beverly (Joseph) Rice; grandchildren, Shannon, Erin, Kelli Jo, Rane, Skye, Tiffany, Charlie, Amanda, Allie, Tyler and Ryan; 21 great- grandchildren; brother, Timothy Sydow; and sister, Beckie Fischer.
Charles loved to tinker, he enjoyed working in his yard and loved to be outside, it was his passion and joy. Charles and Eloise also really enjoyed traveling, especially to their travel trailer in Michigan, going on cruises together and visiting St. Louis. Charles was an avid "mall walker" up until the mall closed, then he found other places to walk. He woke up every morning and went walking. He loved his coffee and liked his Coffee Klatch.
Charles worked at South Shore Line for 37 years. He was a devoted, hardworking employee who truly loved his job. He held many positions until he retired as a supervisor. Charles was a lifetime member of the South Shore Veteran's Association. He was also an auxiliary member of the DAV 23
Friends may visit with the family at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home, located at 613 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana, on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12 p.m. with Pastor Mark Reshan officiating. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 1 p.m.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in Charles' honor to: St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
