Charles White Obituary

Charles D. White, 91, passed away peacefully on Dec. 20, 2022, at his home in Gallatin, Tennessee.

Born in Alabama to Claude and Nety (Page) White, his family relocated to Michigan City, Indiana, where he graduated from Elston High School. As a longtime resident of Michigan City and La Porte, Charles was employed as a quality assurance manager at Joy Manufacturing Company and active in the American Legion Skwiat Post 451, Saint Joseph Young Men's Society and St. Stanislaus Church.

Like his six brothers, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard a destroyer. Charles returned to Michigan City following his military service and married his sweetheart, Ramona Burdick. He was a devoted husband and father of five. He valued knowledge and was interested in many subjects. He enjoyed the outdoors, listening to music, cooking and riding his Harley (back in the day), but most of all, he cherished time with family and friends.

He believed in treating others with kindness and lived his life with a focus on fairness and appreciation of the simple things. He overcame hardships without complaint and was always good for a laugh or a song accompanied by a dance. He was extremely proud of his family and leaves them with some great memories and values. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed.

Charles is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ramona; his children, Kevin White (Karen), Lori Rolph (Neil), Becky White, Marc White (Jenny) and Susan Chapman (Richard); his grandchildren, Phil White (Jill), Luke Hamlin, Zach Hamlin (Kerry), Eryc White, Sara White, Shannon White, Sam Chapman (Bailey) and Anthony Chapman (Abigail); his great-grandchildren, Brody White, Paige White, Quinn White and Chase Chapman; and one brother, Bill White. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, John, Ernie, Hollis, Ken and Jimmie White; and his granddaughters, Melissa White and Courtney White.

A memorial service is not scheduled at this time. His family would like to thank all the individuals that came into his life and made Charles smile along with the staff at Aveanna Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate and expert care.
