Donald E. Crane, 94, of Mill Creek, Indiana, passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 21, 2023, at Southfield Village in South Bend, Indiana.
He was born May 5, 1929, at his family home in Mill Creek, Indiana, the son of Gary L. Crane and Lenora (Adams) Crane.
A lifelong resident of the area who can trace his family roots in La Porte County to 1834, Donald was a graduate of Mill Creek High School and lived the majority if his life in Mill Creek.
On April 22, 1967, in South Bend, Indiana, he married Nicolette "Nicky" (Spychalski) Crane. He was a member of the Sauktown Christian Church.
Donald dedicated more than 45 years of his life to his construction business and was known for his attention to detail in the houses he built. He found joy in building homes and in simple things like splitting wood, taking walks in the woods on his family farm and simply being outdoors.
He enjoyed listening to his son, Drew, play the piano and would look forward to private concerts at home. He and his wife, Nicky, were known for their love of dancing and first met at one of the local dance halls. From the two-step to the polka, when they were on the floor together, they appeared as if they were floating.
Donald loved traveling and seeing shows along the way, making multiple trips to Branson, Missouri. Most of all, Donald cherished his time with his grandchildren more than anything.
He is survived by his two sons, Darwin E. (Kris) Crane of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, and Drew L. (Bridget Crokus) Crane of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter, De'Siree A. (Mark) Yohn of South Bend, Indiana; two grandsons, Codi Yohn of South Bend, Indiana, and Nathan Crane of Rolling Prairie, Indiana; two granddaughters, Madison Crane of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, and Kaila Yohn of South Bend, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nicky; son, Devon F. Crane; brother, Wilbur "Bud" Crane; and sisters, Edna Lehker, Evelyn Shoue and Viola Strefling.

Don was a friend of my family for as long as I can remember. Always an honest, dependable friend to my dad and later to me and my family. May this wonderful man rest in peace.
