Donald J. Groszek, 75, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Friday, May 23, 2025, at 5:18 p.m. in Northwest Health-Porter, Valparaiso, Indiana.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church/Otis, 101 N. Church Rd., Otis, Indiana. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery-Otis, Indiana. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the church. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana, is handling arrangements.
He was born April 16, 1950, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Ted and Leopolda (Derengowski) Groszek. On Sept. 9, 1972, at St. Constance Church in Chicago, Illinois, he married Maryann (Wojcik) Groszek, who survives in Michigan City, Indiana.
Surviving are son, Michael (Mandi) Groszek of Valparaiso, Indiana; two daughters, Maria Groszek of Oak Park, Indiana, and Catherine (Philip) Groszek Stout of Elkhart, Indiana; sister, Elinor Groszek of Rolling Prairie, Indiana; four grandchildren, Nolan Groszek of Valparaiso, Indiana, Nathan Groszek of Valparaiso, Indiana, Carson Groszek of Valparaiso, Indiana, and Elias Stout of Elkhart, Indiana; and niece, Leeann Kreske Faust of Avondale, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by both his parents and brother-in-law, Matthew Kreske.
Donald graduated from Elston Sr. High School in 1968. He and his wife were longtime members of St. Mary Catholic Church in Otis. He was a very hands on mechanic and could work on anything. Donald was a retired maintenance utility man, and crop and hog farmer. He also served as a volunteer firefighter from 1978 to 2000 at the Pine Township Fire Station; he served as the chief from 2001 to 2002. Donald was a huge fishing enthusiast and was a member of the Hoosier Coho Club of Michigan City.
