Mrs. Jamie Lynn Pravecek, 66, of White Pigeon, Michigan, formerly of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Elkhart General Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born July 21, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of William Mabry and Carol (Arvin) Mabry-Cass. She moved from Lansing, Illinois, to La Porte in 1980 and on Dec. 31, 1981, in La Porte, she married Richard Pravecek, who survives.
Jamie was a very social person who enjoyed all types of activities. She worked at Smalls Landscaping when the children were small before joining the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier, working in both La Porte and Chesterton, making many friends along the way.
She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies of Elkhart and she was also a true homemaker who enjoyed cooking and sewing, creating fabulous meals and unique and helpful sewing items. Jamie loved tending to her flowers and she and Richard had a vegetable garden, canning many fresh items for their meals. They also fished together, relaxing at their river home.
Jamie's adventurous nature took her motorcycle riding on her Harley Sportster, houseboating, traveling around the country and cruising the high seas. She loved coming home, though, to her beloved family, sitting on the porch and watching the numerous hummingbird feeders around the yard. Her family and friends were her passion and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Along with her husband of 43 years, Richard, Jamie is survived by her mother, Carol Cass of Elkhart, Indiana; son, Douglas (Megan) Quirk of La Porte, Indiana; daughter, Crystal (Shane) Hammerschmidt of Rolling Prairie, Indiana; sister, Laurie (Kelly) Jones of Portage, Indiana; granddaughter, Nola Hammerschmidt; and grandson, Gregory Quirk.
Jamie was preceded in death by her father, William Mabry; and her grandson, William Hammerschmidt.
