She was born Dec. 5, 1933, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late William Raymond and Edna (Gugerty) Snook. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 65 years, Jacob "Jack." They were married on Feb. 2, 1957, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Michigan City. She deeply loved her two children, Drew (Becky) Povlock of Trail Creek, Indiana, and Beth (Todd) Pilarski of Indianapolis, Indiana. She adored and doted on her 10 grandchildren, Phillip, Joseph (Becca), Amanda, Margaret (Evan Grillo), Jake (Karah Richards) and Anthony Povlock, Bram (Katie) Sanders, Mary (Marc) LeMay, Seth (Amanda) Hughes and Anna (Samuel Scheetz) Hughes. She has 10 great-grandchildren, Lane Steven Sanders, Maelin Rae Sanders, Madilyn Elizabeth LeMay, Bridger Todd LeMay, Penelope Rae Sims, Leopold Patrick Sims, Jacob Andrew Povlock, Charlie Daniel Povlock, Noah Brantley Alan Hughes and Asher Jacob Hughes. Also survived by a special niece, who cared for her lovingly and unselfishly, Sue (Gary) Westman; and nieces and nephews, Stephen (Sharon) Kintzele, George (Tiffany) Kintzele, Boni Snook (Mark) Burbank, Georgina (Dr. Marc) Frances, Marsha Hibner and Deborah Hibner (Rick) Scruggs.
Preceding Katie in death, in addition to her parents, were her sisters and their husbands, Barbara and Patrick Kintzele and Hazel and Marshall Hibner; her brothers, William James and Regene Snook; and her foster sister, Helen Fry Clark; and her beloved nieces and nephews William Hibner, Karen Hibner Colgrove, William Raymond Snook and Patricia Kintzele Yazel.
Katie attended St. Mary's Grade and High School and graduated joyfully with her beloved class of 1952. Her first job was at Michiana Products in the office. She belonged to Alpha lota Chapter of the Pi Epsilon Kappa Catholic Sorority for more than 60 years, members past and present were her dearest friends throughout the years. Katie held all offices in Alpha lota Chapter as well as grand president of the sorority for two terms and received the Harriet McCullough Service Award in 2008. She was a member of Queen of All Saints Catholic Church along with singing in the funeral choir and in her younger years taught CCD and was a Cub Scout den mother. She was a Queen of All Saints Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and took the Eucharist to the home bound. Also visited two nursing homes where she led a Communion prayer service weekly. She also belonged to the Queen's Bible Study Group on Monday mornings.
She and her husband Jack started and led the senior group (SPARC) at Queens for 12 years where she also met many friends. Katie had an open house at her home constantly. And like her mother before her, welcomed company and friends warmly and on special occasions had a full house. She loved having overnights for her grandchildren, Halloween parties and Valentine parties for them, Christmas and Fourth of July gatherings. The more the merrier.
She thanks her husband, Jack, for his love and care through their marriage, he was indeed the wind beneath her wings. She thanks her children and her 10 grandchildren for the joy they brought her and the great-grandchildren they gave her. Most especially Katie was grateful for her Holy Catholic Faith which sustained her all through her life and thanks God and the dear priest who gave her a chance to have that faith at age 7 and thanks all the people in the world, unknown to her, whose prayers made it possible for her to have the Catholic Faith.
She says, "I am weak, but my faith is strong. God is good."
An extremely heartfelt thanks goes out to all the girls from Dunes Hospice and the staff of Rittenhouse for taking such good care of mama in her final days.
Contributions may be made to Dunes Hospice, 4711 Evans Ave., Valparaiso, Indiana, 46383.
