Kathy Trask peacefully took her last breath on Feb. 14, 2024. She courageously battled and beat cancer several times, bravely deciding to face the last round without treatment. She spent her final months surrounded by love from family and family friends in Newport News, Virginia.
She was a lifelong resident of Michigan City and could often be seen taking long walks by the Lake and frequenting local bakeries. Kathy loved to have fun. She enjoyed reading crime books, eating delicious food (mostly desserts) and going for walks. She was a hard worker and over the course of her life worked in many different roles; she worked as a factory worker, alway as a waitress, and loved her summer job at the blueberry farm.
As an excellent baker (and trained Wilton cake decorator), she had high standards for desserts and nothing made her day quite like the most perfect treat. Her favorite was a slice or two of black forest cake.
She loved her children and grandchildren and was adored in return. Kathy loved adventures, traveling all over the U.S. and world with her daughter, Lisa, and enjoyed playing cards and games with her dear friends.
She was kind, generous and thoughtful, making sacrifices to help support those she loved most.
She was preceded in death by her beloved partner, Arie Donkersloot; her best friend and daughter, Toni Falls; her parents, Glenn and Francis Trask; and her dear sons-in-law, David P. Nichting Jr. and Mike Falls. Kathy will be dearly missed by her children, Michael Martin and Lisa Nichting; and her grandchildren, Jacob Martin, Mark and Ryan Kmiecik, and Jack and Claire Nichting.
In honor and remembrance of Kathy, let's all eat dessert before dinner (or better yet, only eat dessert).
Kathy's loved ones will bid her farewell privately.
