Marianne "Denise" Holmes, 86, passed away May 23, 2024.
She is survived by Warren, her husband of 57 years; and her sisters, June Kalman (Edward) and Patty Walsh (John-deceased); and her brother, Mike Creeden (Mary-deceased). All reside in the Boston area.
Denise was an active member of her community since moving to Michigan City with Warren in 1975; working for Horizon Bank, rising to the position of vice president and then president of Lakeshore Bank.
She worked as a volunteer for SHIP for seven years, assisting those on Medicare. She mentored several young people over the years.
Denise truly gave of herself to help others.
Denny was the first recipient of the Athena Award; one of many honors that she would receive in her life.
After her retirement, she and her husband spent 23 years during the winter months living in the Rio Grande Valley; first in a trailer and then a 35-foot motor home. They both volunteered two days a week at the Texas State Park next door; she was a tour guide and Reception Center docent while Warren managed seven bird feeding stations.
Both went on group birding trips each week sighting more than 100 species in three or four hours. She posted many pictures on Facebook under "Denise Creeden Holmes."
Denise was past president of United Way, Rotary and The Heart Fund as well as serving other organizations as president or board member.
Her last good deed was to donate her body to Indiana University School of Medicine.
Denise will be missed by all of those who knew and loved her.
As one of her friends stated, "We have lost a treasure."

Denise hired me at Lakeshore Bank. I was always grateful to her for that. She encouraged me to accept a position at a larger bank where I became Executive VP. I never forgot her kindness.

I will truly miss this wonderful woman. I learned so much from her and she helped to shape me into the business woman I am today. She had a kind heart and a smile what would light up a room. She was definitely one of a kind and an amazing roll model for every woman that had the privilege of working with her. So lucky to call her my friend.
