Mark Van Durflinger, age 68, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2022.
Mark was born on March 17, 1953, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Louise and Wally Durflinger. His father, Wally, precedes him in death. Mark graduated from Elston High School in 1971.
He is survived by his mother, Louise Fuller Durflinger of Michigan City; sister, Karla Barth of Stockton, California; brothers, Kurt Durflinger of Michigan City, Indiana, and John Durflinger of Yorba Linda, California; aunt, Diane Hack of Michigan City; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mark was an awesome caregiver to our mother and the "cool" uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was always there to babysit, coach and tell great stories. Mark helped take care of his close neighbor friends and liked watching the Cubs, Purdue, Michigan City High School and TV sports with the announcers sound off. He thought perhaps athletics in Jesus' time, Jesus would be a top notch athlete. Mark loved playing pool and bean bags at Chappy's Stadium Inn. He loved being on the wrestling team at Elston High School, playing baseball and basketball from little league to playing church softball and basketball all the way into his 60s. Mark also enjoyed listening to all kinds of music from rock to symphonies to operas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan City High School Athletic Booster Club.
