Michael Borawski Obituary

Michael Joseph Borawski, 76, of Michigan City passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2022, at the Root Funeral Home. Burial will follow at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery in La Porte. A time of remembrance will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mike was born Sept. 13, 1945, in La Porte to the late Adolph and Phyllis (Zirzow) Borawski.

On Aug. 21, 1970, at St. Peter Church in La Porte, he married Diane Birlson, who is surviving in Michigan City. Also surviving is his daughter, Emily (Greg) Barnes; his son, Matthew Borawski; two sisters, Diane (Dwight) Boswell and Carol (Terry) Peckat; two brothers, William and Terry Borawski; two aunts, Judy Zirzow Bush and Dianne (Richard) Borawski; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by one sister, Sherry Toth.

Mike is a graduate of La Porte High School and the University of Nebraska. He is a veteran of the United States Army having served in Vietnam, and became a chef extraordinaire upon retirement from law enforcement. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Memorials may be made to St. Stanislaus Church or School in his memory.

We are certainly going to miss him. The four of us (Mike Diane Cary Sharon) made it through covid eating his delicious food and playing dominoes 4-5 nights a week. He's the only one of us who did not get it. (Covid) So many years together, so many memories.. so sorry for your loss Diane Emily and Matthew.
