Norman Irk Obituary

Norman Robert Irk, 81, of Knox passed away peacefully at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2022.

He was born Nov. 20, 1940, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Robert George Irk and Helen (Pedzinski) Irk.

Norman owned and operated Convenience Recycling of La Porte. He was an excellent fabricator and welder, spending time creating and designing equipment. He considered his backhoe, tractors and bulldozer as his toys. He took pride in his yearly gardening, and his rock flower garden setting. He enjoyed watching all the birds come to feast on the many bird feeders that he kept filled year-round. Norman adored his cat and two dogs.

Surviving are his four children, Michael (Kathy) Irk of La Porte, MaryAnn (Theodore) Hatala and David (Janet) Irk both of La Porte, and Steven (Debbie) Irk of South Bend; two brothers, George (Karen) Irk of La Porte and Jerry (Barb) Irk of North Carolina; 14 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Preceding in death were his parents; one sister, Patricia Irk; and one brother, Irvin Irk.

Cremation will take place. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte, 219-362-3100, is caring for the arrangements.
