Ronald Lee Dodd, 78, of New Carlisle, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025, at University of Louisville Hospital, Kentucky. He was born in New Carlisle on April 8, 1947, to the late Walter C. and E. Virginia Dodd.
Ronald graduated from New Carlisle High School with the class of 1965 and worked as a heat and frost insulator for Local 75 from 1965 to 1997 on several construction sites throughout Northwest Indiana and Southwest Michigan, utilizing his many skills that were common among his father and two brothers. He later obtained an associate degree in engineering technology from Purdue North Central.
Ronald married Ruth Ann Zahn in 1968 and moved to Michigan City to establish a home for her and his only child, Eric. He divorced and moved back to his home town of New Carlisle near his grandparent's house near Hudson Lake in 1976. He later moved to La Porte, Indiana, where he built an entire house with the help of talented friends and family, especially Uncle Bob and his good friend Eddie. He married Roberta Woolums in 2008 and moved to Kentucky, making homes in Stamping Ground and Georgetown.
Ronald was talented at many things, having a knack with tools, construction, fishing rods, cars, darts and finding morel mushrooms. He was a hard worker his entire life until health issues limited his abilities in later years. He enjoyed watching his granddaughter Sarah play volleyball, family events and catching up with relatives at the annual Peterson Picnic.
Preceding Ronald in death are his parents; wife, Roberta; and brother, Richard. Surviving are his brother, Douglas Dodd; son, Eric (Kay) Dodd of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin; granddaughter, Sarah (Tyler) Roehl of Houston, Texas; step-grandson, Matthew (Amy) Themer of Waukesha, Wisconsin; step-granddaughter, Angela (Adam) Foxworth of Kenosha, Wisconsin; and stepson, Dwayne Woolums of Lexington, Kentucky.
The family wishes to thank his Georgetown, Kentucky, neighbors, especially Joseph, Matthew and Ryan; Dale and the community of Faith Baptist Church; his caregiver Nita and the staff at UL Hospital Burn Center.
A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, Aug. 17, 2 p.m. Central Time at Monroe's Crossing, 7038 N. Chicago Road, New Carlisle 46552, on Hudson Lake. Memorial donations may be made to Faith Baptist Church, Georgetown, Kentucky, or to the Scott County Humane Society.
