Sara Carlisle Obituary

Sara Elizabeth Carlisle, age 83, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 30, 2024.

Sara was born on May 8, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, to William H. and Annie (White) Pugsley, who precede her in death.

Sara is survived by her children, Robert (Susan) Carlisle of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, Mary (Michael) Johnson of Sherwood, Wisconsin, and Elizabeth "Beth" Carlisle (Steve Blackstock) of Littleton, Colorado; grandchildren, Alexander (Bronwen) Carlisle, Kelsey N. Carlisle, AJ Bruns, Rachel Johnson, Jacob (Kelsey L.) Johnson, and Grace and Ava Blackstock; and great-grandson, Clive Carlisle.

Sara is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William R. Carlisle and her sisters, Betsy Ann (William D.) Mitchell and LaDora Jane (William A.) Steele.

Sara, together with her husband, owned Carlisle Funeral Home in Michigan City. She was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as a past president of the Women's Association and a deacon. She and Bill were members of the Pottawatomie Country Club for 60 years.

Sara was snarky, stubborn, compassionate and silly. She loved "MASH," "Downton Abbey," golfing, crossword puzzles, black licorice and the color blue ("you can never have too much blue"). She loved catalog shopping and turning down corners of pages for things she would never order! She loved traveling in their motor home to Florida, New Orleans, Texas and across the country. She loved to feed the hummingbirds and orioles that frequented her yard. Sara had a knack for growing orchids and African Violets.

Sara was proud of her family; the family she came from and the one she created. She loved her kids and grandkids and loved having fun with them. Sara will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all.

Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington St. Michigan City, IN 46360, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Steve Blackstock officiating. Sara will be entombed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy in Sara's name may be made to Unity Foundation of La Porte County, 422 Franklin Street, Suite C, Michigan City, IN 46360.

The family would like to thank Traditions Hospice and the staff at Rittenhouse Village for their loving care and attention. Visit Sara's online guestbook at www.carlislefh.com 219-874-4214.

I knew Sara for only a short time while working at Rittenhouse. She was one of my favorite person there and I could say I was her too. I remember when l I told her my last goodbye we cried together. It was just a simple fact that we won´t have our little late night chats anymore and we went on and on about anything that came up like about family, horses, and a staff member that she just couldn´t stand. It was our little routine and knowing she passes hurts me a little but i know she´s in a better place right now.

Sara was a patient of mine in hospice. She was sassy, knew what she wanted and a tough cookie.
She didn´t let everyone in but when she let you in you felt it big! I enjoyed knowing her. Love to her family
Rest in peace Bill and Sara

Sara was a wonderful neighbor golf partner and friend.
She and her husband handled all our family funerals with sympathy and skill.
May her memory be a blessing.
