Alfredo Perrelli Obituary

Alfredo F. "Fred" Perrelli

Lansing, Michigan

Alfredo Perrelli, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, went to our Lord on March 15, 2015, at the age of 88.  He was born on February 3, 1927, in Piane Crati, a small mountainside village outside of Cosenza, Italy. He married Antonette "Donna" Alagna in 1952 and they were married for 47 years until her death in 1999.  Together, they raised four sons and provided love and support to many family members and friends. Alfredo "Fred," was a member of the Church of the Resurrection, The Father John's Society, a founding member and former president of the Lansing Italian American Club, and an appointee to the Michigan Barber Licensing Board.  He was an avid golfer, bocce ball player and loved everything Italian.  He opened Perrelli's Barber and Style Shop in 1957, serving the community for over 54 years.  With his brother Mike, they had a diverse clientele that included people from nearly every walk of life.  Alfredo remarried in 2004. He is survived by his second wife Jennifer (Rice), his sons Sante "Sam," Michele "Mike" (Laurie), John and Joseph, grandson Alfredo and granddaughter Sophia Antonette, brother Michele "Mike" (Rose) Perrelli of Lansing, sisters Anna Caldato of Hamilton, Ontario, Ida (Francesco) Bozzo of Cosenza, Italy, and many close relatives in Italy, Canada and Australia.  He was predeceased by his father Sante and mother Marietta (Fortino), wife Antonette, brother Francesco Perrelli, sisters Laura DeLuca, Chiarena Bozzo, Rita Parise, and Barbara DiGrazia.  The Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. John A. Byers at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 19, 2015, at St. Mary Cathedral, 219 Seymour St., Lansing with the Rite of Committal at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 1-3 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m.  The family thanks his many caregivers.  Memorial contributions may be made to English as a Second Language and Literacy Programs through St. Vincent Catholic Charities, or McLaren Hospice Foundation.

Mike,

Your brother Fred and you were part of downtown landscape for so many years that even today when I leave my office (across the street from your barber shop) I still feel a pang of sadness at Perrelli's Barber Shop being closed.

Every man in our building went to Perrelli's for haircuts and to see Fred and Mike and secretly hoped to run into some of Lansing's Who's Who: Governors, Senators, Legislators and Lobbyists many of whom were seen in those chairs!!

My boss, Frank Garrison, looked forward to seeing you and Fred for his bi-weekly visits. More than anything else, he cherished your friendships.

God rest your soul, Fred.

What an honor it is to have known this great guy. Nothing but pleasant memories and some great haircuts as well. We don't get gifts like this from God enough. Boy, what a void he leaves. Prayers go out to his family and God Bless his soul and memory. Lansing has lost a good one!
