Archie Matsos Obituary
East Lansing - 86, Passed away on May 28, 2021, at Robinwood Landing, in Lansing, Michigan. Archie was born in Detroit, Michigan, to George and Maria Matsos, on November 22, 1934. He was a multi-sport standout at Detroit's Redford High School. Archie went on to become an outstanding linebacker at Michigan State University from 1954-1958, where he obtained his Bachelor's in Economics. He later played for four NFL teams, for over seven years; the Buffalo Bills, Oakland Raiders, Denver Broncos, and the San Diego Chargers. During his career, he was on the Sporting News All-AFL team of 1960 and 1963; AFL Eastern Division All-Star in 1961 and 1962. Archie was well known among the MSU sports community, and the MSU Football Players Association.
Archie was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Harry Matsos; and sister, Katherine G. Matsos. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Interment took place Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens, in Novi, Michigan.
Contributions can be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, and the MSU Football Players Association.

So very sorry to hear about Archie passing I knew him when I lived in Alameda CA and worked as a PBX operator and ran the gift shop, we dated for quite a while in fact he helped celebrate my 21st Birthday in San Francisco with the rest of the team. I have such fond memories RIP Archie and condolences to your family

I remember Archie from growing up in Detroit. He was somewhat of a legend at Redford High School. I had cousins that went to Cooley who played against him and said that he played hard on every play. RIP, Mr. Matsos, you were one of the good ones.
