Art lopes was a true gentleman, friend, mentor and professional restaurant consultant. If he didn't write the book on designing restaurants, he surely could easily have done so. Art's experience in the restaurant supply business was very much appreciated by the ACF Capital Professional Cooks and Chef's Association of Greater Lansing, Michigan for decades. He was honored with our highest yearly honor as Culinarian of the Year for his contributions to our association.
Most of all, Art did what he said he would do and offered wise counsel to the Board of Directors and myself as a past President.
I had just met with Art and chatted for a few minutes when he delivered his annual mixed nut order from Southside Kiwanis Club. He was at the time just finishing delivering Meals on Wheels. Art was a genuine people person and was sincerely interested in what you had to say and listened intently. He was always willing to give his opinion if you just asked. The Chef's association and myself have lost a true friend. May you rest in heaven dear friend and I thank God for your presence in my life.

I wasn’t really sure how to express the respect and admiration I’ve had for Art, but I think I can sum it up by saying If I could be the type of person I would really like to be, it would be to live like Art did. He loved his family so much, and yet found the time, the energy, and the drive to do so much for others who needed his help. He lived his life like a guardian angel. I hope I can live what’s left of mine a little more like he lived his.

Art was a volunteer! Art was one of the nice guys. Art and I did SLBA clean up last year together, I missed seeing him this year. Art got me into Meals on Wheels that I have been doing for five years. Hopefully someone will fill his shoes at MOW. I will miss seeing him at SLBA. My sympathy to his family.

Art was so friendly and a truly wonderful member of SLBA . We will miss his great smile and caring ways in everything he did. Those he served in the community will miss him so much, as well. May a lifetime of memories bring peace to his family.

His wonderful smile and sense of humor will be greatly missed. And his service to the community that he lived in suffered a great loss. There will be many times in the next few years that a sudden memory will bring his face to mind for me. Especially the service projects that we shared with each other. My thoughts and prayers remain with the family for their loss. He may be gone but his presence will live on.

Sandy, Tracy, Terri, Tamie and the rest of the family - I am so very sorry. My heart breaks for all of you. Art was such a kind and gentle man. He always greeted me with a smile whenever I walked through your front door (which on any given day could be multiple times a day!). He would jokingly give us a hard time when we were heading out on our bikes to visit the Tasty Twist in Old Town. Or saving us after my car ran out of gas on our way to school. He was caring and so thoughtful - and made the world a much better place for the many people who benefited from his kindness. Please know that I carry all of you close in my heart. Streaming support, strength and love to you all.

Sandy and family, I'm heartbroken to see Art has passed. I cherish the memories of both of you when dad would bring me to Kiwanis gatherings and working chicken bbq's. Art always made me feel I was part of the Kiwanis family and i would as be dads "date" on many occasions. Art was the kindest man and will be truly missed. My prayers are with you and your family.
