Elizabeth Otis Obituary

Elizabeth (Libby) M. Otis

Lansing - Elizabeth (Libby) M. Otis of Lansing, Ml and Venice, FL. Age 70 died at home on July 26, 2020.

A lovely lady, who leaves behind her grieving husband, Michael and dog, Phoebe, who will miss her forever. Also, important to her, is a large cadre of friends who she loved, near and far.

Almost 40 years ago, Libby received the most generous gift from an unknown person, a kidney which was transplanted in December 1981. This allowed her to have a full life and enjoy all that came her way. She fought hard to protect that kidney, which was named Felicity, and struggled with the consequences. She was valiant and strong.

Libby was a graduate of MSU College of Education and worked as a teacher until she decided she wanted to go to law school. She graduated, with honors, from Cooley Law School and became a member of the State Bar of Michigan. She was remarkably smart and talented though she would have disputed that.

Rather than flowers, please consider a donation to MSU College of Veterinary Medicine- Lucky Fund, The National Kidney Foundation of Michigan or the Capital Area Humane Society. If you have not already, sign up as an organ donor, Give the Gift of Life.

Due to Covid there will be no memorial service at this time.

Libby was one of the nicest people I have ever met. She was always happy and never complained about her health issues, we spent many hours just sitting on her porch and talking. I will always remember her smile and love of life. Mike was a very fortunate man to have her as a wife and she was lucky to have found Mike. A lovely lady who will always be remembered.

Mike, please accept my sincerest condolences on the passing of your lovely wife.

I can still remember her beautiful smile when I first saw her as we started law school together. She became a wonderful study partner but most importantly a wonderful friend. Both you and Libby were so generous with your time and you made my transition to Lansing much easier. Libby’s energy was boundless, her smile was contagious and her personality was always upbeat. It is these qualities, along with her tender heart that will cause all of us who were blessed to have known her to miss her dearly. Although Libby and I grew apart over the years, she will always hold a special place in my heart.

My you find comfort in knowing that she loved you dearly. May you also find peace and tranquility in the love you have given and the love you have received through the years. ❤Libby is, now and forever, surrounded by God's eternal grace. You are in my thoughts and prayers. My heart goes out to you in your time of sorrow.

I am so sorry to learn of Libby's passing. As a friend of the Sullivans she was a volunteer at Common Ground where I had the pleasure of meeting her many years ago. She was delightful and I enjoyed crossing paths with her over the years, especially on walks in the neighborhood. My heartfelt condolences to Mike, her family and friends.
