Frank Brown Obituary

Frank Brown Mason Age 90, passed away April 7, 2013. He was born September 26, 1922, to Elvin and Ottie Brown of Haslett. He graduated from Haslett High School in 1940. Frank proudly served in WWII and the Korean Conflict. He worked for various companies including Michigan Bell, Hager Fox, Standard Block, MSU, before settling into business for himself, creating the Brown & Chappell Insurance Agency in 1965 which has blossomed into the successful Holt & Dimondale Insurance Agency. He was very active in the Holt Kiwanis Club, serving as club secretary for 43 years. During his tenure, he received numerous distinguished awards. Frank was a dedicated community person, always paying it forward to local community events or organizations. Frank loved to travel and visited many countries during his lifetime. He also loved to spend time at the cottage as well as watch the ducks in the pond behind his apartment with wife Marge by his side. Frank married Phyllis MacNeal in 1926 and they were married for 53 years. She precedes him in death. Son Shawn also precedes him in death. Also, preceding him in death are brothers, Dan and Robert; and sister, Jeanette. Brother Darrell survives him. He married Marjorie Tharnish in 2006 and she survives him. For the last seven years, Marge and Frank were inseparable and as in Frank's own words, "As of this date, I am living with the most wonderful person in the world." Also surviving are: son, Patrick (Kathy Cole); daughter-in-law, Susan Brown; stepchildren, Lawrence (Susan) Tharnish, Marilyn (Bob) Mattiesen, Susan (Edward) Pavwoski, Paula (Jeff) Orler and Julie (Scott) Chelf; grandchildren, Patrick, Megan, Amber, Conner, Sarah, Ethan, Brandy, Brandon, Peter, Tammy, Michael, Angela, Ben, Mariah, Joshua, Jasmine, and Derek; and 19 great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church of Holt, 2021 Aurelius Rd., with The Rev. Bekah J.C. Zorgdrager officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Holt Community Food Bank in memory of Frank Brown. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.
