Gary L. Munson

Gary L. Munson Age 73, died at his home on Saturday, February 28, 2009 from complications due to thyroid cancer. He was born December 23, 1935, in Lansing, MI, the son of C.R. and Aline (Tweedie) Munson. They preceded him in death. Gary graduated from Lansing Everett High School and attended Michigan State University, before entering the United States Army. He spent 22 months in Germany during his time of service. He married Sandra Banta in 1962, and she survives him. Survivors also include sons and daughters-in-law, Neil and Michelle Munson; and Ron and Linda Munson; four grandchildren, Matt, Samantha, Jesse and Caroline; sister, Doris (Ed) Fairbee; and close friends, Patrick and Rebecca Baughan. He was a man devoted to his family. He and Sandy enjoyed participating in the Tri-County Bicycle Association and rode thousands of miles together on their tandem. He served in many capacities for TCBA during his more than 30 years of membership. A lifelong woodworker, he enjoyed crafting works of art for his family. He cared deeply about creating quality work from quality materials. Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, and time outside in the woods. He loved to travel, both on and off his bike, with Sandy and their friends. He worked for IBM as a customer engineer for 30 years. Visitation is on Wednesday, March 4th, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service is Thursday, March 5th at 11 a.m. at Chapel in the Pines Funeral Home, Lansing. Burial will be held at the Fairfield Township Cemetery, near Carland, in Shiawassee County. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
