George Weeks Obituary

George E. Weeks DeWitt Loving and attentive husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, George Eugene Weeks, at age 85, passed to be with his Lord on Father's Day, June 17th, 2012. Born May 22, 1927 in Charlotte, MI, George was the son of the late Elmer and Mildred (Granger) Weeks. He resided and worked in the Lansing area all of his life; and, after 39 years of service, retired from a Departmental Supervisory position at the City of Lansing. He was cared for and surrounded by his wife, Alice Lydia Dunckel Weeks, and his family throughout his illness as throughout his life. He was bid farewell by all including his siblings, doctor, pastor, and friends. George loved his family and considered time spent with them his foremost hobby. Other hobbies included carpentry: a gift of his time, talent, and instruction from which all his family benefited. He also enjoyed gardening, especially flower gardening, as well as the tranquility of time spent tooling about on his lawnmower or tractor, grooming the yard and plants, and enjoying nature. He enjoyed decades of retirement winters in Zephyrhills, Florida partaking in wood carving, golfing, weekly dances, dessert socials, and as president of his Church group as well as posts on the resort Board and many committees. George was preceded in death by his grandson, Chad; siblings Robert and Eleanor; and his parents. Surviving to cherish his gifts and memory are his beloved wife of 68 years, Alice; daughters Nancy A. (Richard) Page of Mesa, AZ, and Linda D. (Michael) Dickson of Laingsburg, MI; sons Michael E. (Kathy) Weeks of LaCrosse, WI, and Donald C. (Amy) Weeks of DeWitt, MI; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers; and 3 sisters. The family will receive guests on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, 5-8pm at Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Home, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt, MI. A funeral Service will be held Thursday, June 21, 2012, 11 am at Calvary Baptist Church, 14769 Wood St., Lansing, MI. Gifts of commemoration may be made to Calvary Baptist Church or to the American Cancer Society, 3100 West Rd, Bldg. B, Ste. 110, East Lansing, MI 48823 by those desiring to do so. Grandpa Weeks will be missed by many, I can only hope to have as great of a life as he had, full of friends and family that love him. He always brought laughter to the room and put a smile on my face, full of jokes and smart comments. :) In this hard time of saying good-bye to Grandpa, remember all of the great memories that we have with him, those of which I will never forget. Love you all and see you in August!

There once was a young bride named Kate,
Who chose George's oldest son for her mate.
She got a whole family crew
With George as her Dad too,
And life without him shall not be as great.

George was such a gentle soul. His smile would light up a room. He wanted the best for his family and raised model children. He was a success in many ways. My condolences to Alice who took such good care of George all through their marriage, and to Nancy, Linda, Mike and Don, and all their grandchildren.

One of my greatest memories as a child was spending my summers up north at my Grandparents cottage. I remember standing at the end of the dock, afraid of getting in the lake. Little did I know, Grandpa was standing behind me, picked me up and threw me in. I've always told people that's how I learned to swim. I learned, and was never afraid of the water again. I love you Grandpa, you will forever be in my heart.
