Howard Stone Obituary
Howard Anderson Stone Haslett, MI Howard Anderson Stone was born on November 21, 1940 in Claremont, New Hampshire, a son of Leon Earl Stone and Marcelene Anderson Stone. He died peacefully on May 7, 2008. A 1958 graduate of Stevens High School in Claremont, New Hampshire, Howard was proud to be part of the marching band that was invited to participate in the Presidential Inauguration for Dwight Eisenhower in 1957. He achieved his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture in 1962 and his Master of Science degree in Genetics in 1965 from the University of New Hampshire. He continued his studies in a doctoral program at Michigan State University. He was employed at the United States Department of Agriculture Avian Disease and Oncology Laboratory for many years and his laboratory group was honored for outstanding research on Marek's disease resulting in the development of a vaccine. He then launched his own poultry business that continued for over thirty years. Howard enjoyed participating in the Meridian Township Farmer's Market and was the longest active vendor. In his free time, he enjoyed his family, dogs, and spending time at the cottage on Crystal Lake. Howard was actively involved and guided the planning efforts for his upcoming 50th Stevens High School Class Reunion. Howard is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sandy; three children, Linda (Karl) Lovett of San Ramon, CA, Lori (Dennis) Carnathan of New Providence, PA, and Kathy (John) Dzieciolowski of Springfield, VA; eight grandchildren; sister, Beverly Clark of Claremont, New Hampshire; and brother, Leon Stone, Jr., of Niskayuna, New York. Howard was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Kiloran. Memorial services will be held Monday, May 12, 2008, at 5:00 p.m. at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River, East Lansing. The family will receive friends prior to the memorial services from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Cremation will take place with graveside services to be held in Salem, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stevens High School, Class of 1958 Scholarship Fund or to the Stone Grandchildren Education Fund. Contribution envelopes will be available at the Memorial.
