Dear Jim and Anne,
Mary Ellen and I are so sorry for the passing of Ian. I realize that the loss of a son is a pain that a mere note from a distant friend and colleague will do little to assuage. Still, the older I get, the more I realize there is nothing like family and within a family that is so acutely feeling loss are also the seeds for healing. A healing that is slow and not without scars but healing none the less. You remain in our thoughts and prayers.

May the sun on your face, each time, remind you that your little boy is waiting for you to come home, and he is peaceful, and warm, and loved there. Your love for him is a constant tether to him in heaven, a beacon that never loses its intensity. You will find him again, he already knows where you are! May peace and warm memories eventually take the place of sorrow in your hearts.
