James Taylor Obituary

James Norton Taylor

Passed away peacefully on Sunday,        December 21, 2014 at the age of 69. He was born in Benton, Louisiana, the son of Reverend Willie and Nellie Mae Taylor. He graduated from C.H. Irion High School, then relocated to Lansing where he worked at GM Fisher Body for 37 years, retiring in 2002.

James was a highly respected role model and mentor to many young men in the Lansing community. He organized and coached the well-known Taylor's MVPs basketball team. He also helped his brother coach the Taylor's Steelers football team.

James is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Kay; son, Marcus; stepchildren, Maurice Brandon and Darla Brandon-Roland (Mitchell); granddaughters, Zoe, Nadia, Destiny, Kayla, Stasha and Malani; sister Mary Goines; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held on December 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Solid Rock Full Gospel Baptist Church, Lansing, MI. Arrangements by Riley Funeral Home.

Uncle James, I didn't get to know you, but when I 1st met you I knew you were the Man for my Auntie Kay Davis-Taylor, which the two produced a wonderful Cousin Marcus. Marcus, Mrs. Taylor, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I remember being in elementary school becoming friends with Marcus and Mr. Taylor was always close by. I remember seeing how close he and Marcus were through him coaching Marcus in basketball and always seeing the two of them smiling together. My prayers go out to you guys and the entire Taylor family.
