Jerry Rutter Obituary

Jerry Allen Rutter Sr.

74 died peacefully on June 11, 2014. He was born to the late Budd J and Mae Rutter on March 6, 1940 in Lansing, MI. Jerry graduated from Lansing Sexton High School in 1959 after which he served as an acrobatic diver and performer in the Recreation Services Division of the United States Army. Jerry was a Real Estate Developer for many years in Lansing before relocating to Elk Rapids and he spent the last few years living close to family in Minnesota.

Jerry's love of the water was fostered from a young age and he received his Captain's license allowing him to spend much of his time on the water driving a variety of boats and yachts as well as owning and spending summers with his family on his own boat.  Jerry is survived by three children: Budd J Rutter II, of Stillwater MN, Beth Nowosacki, of Traverse City MI and Jerry (Heather) Rutter Jr of Phoenix AZ. Jerry is also survived by his six grandchildren, a niece and his sisters Phyllis Marcussen of Grand Ledge MI and Maggie Rutter of Grawn MI.

A memorial service is being planned for later in the summer.

Jerry's beautiful spirit will surely be missed. I knew him from a long time ago. I know his family meant the world to him. He was a wonderful person. So sorry to hear of his passing.

Jerry & Dick, my father, are together again, answering to the Big Guy above, and getting in all kinds of trouble. I will forever be thankful to Jerry for helping make my dad's memorial service a celebration of life. He opened his heart, home, boat and memories for our family. May you rest in peace Jerry!

Some of my greatest memories are of his delicious meals and fine boats! My thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
