John Iverson Obituary

John Lawrence Iverson Okemos Born in Salem, Oregon June 12, 1946 to parents Bjarne and Jane Iverson who preceded John in death. Also preceding John's death were his wife, Grace Iverson and brother-in-law Gar Grainer. He is survived by wife, Jenine (Grainer) Iverson; brothers, Dennis (Pat) Iverson and George (Mary) Iverson and families; sons, Weston Iverson, Shea Provenzano, and Emery Max; daughter, Kim (Bryan) O'Donnell; and grandchildren, Nina, Daelyn and Allison. Retiring from the State of Michigan in 1996 afforded him the opportunity to indulge in some of his passions, which included spending time with his growing family, antiquing, gardening and playing the harmonica. John died unexpectedly of natural causes while at home. He will sorely be missed by all who knew and loved him. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Lansing, 855 Grove, East Lansing, MI with the Rev. Kathryn A. Bert officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society. Arrangements by Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Now and then I have music friends and John will come up. We smile and talk about the fun we all had together with him and what a good friend he was to us all.

Just Sunday I had a conversation with another Harmonica player about people that helped us learn and John came up. Some places I go I still think about the fun times he was a part of.

What a dear man John was--he always was such a gentle host to our movie group, and his artistic sensibilities manifested in the garden and the household created such a beautiful environment. We will all miss him.

A friend, a mentor, and a man of true wit and wisdom. Although, I seldom saw John in the last few years, it made me smile just to know he was out there being John.

John was a kind man, a gentleman (and gentle man) in a world populated by far to few.

Those of us who knew him will miss him.

I am so sorry to hear about John's passing. I knew him as Grace's husband, before her own passing some years ago. As someone who has experienced the pain of this kind of loss, my prayers go out to his family during this time.
