Judith Preston Obituary

Judith A. (Zimmerman) Preston Born August 4, 1948, entered into Paradise on January 26, 2011. I survived breast cancer, but, for reasons known only to God, I acquired Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a vicious robber of skills, muscle, independence, dignity and finally, of life. I was preceded in death by my mother, May Zimmerman and sister, Deneice Webb. I loved God, my life and my family. I enjoyed traveling, cooking and baking and many other things. Surviving to keep my legacy alive is my beautiful family; soul mate, primary care giver and husband of 44 years, Robert; wonderful daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly & John Marton and Phyllis and Justin McLellan; dear father, William Zimmerman; the son I never had, my nephew, Mike Preston (Laura May, Dakota) and special great niece, my huggy bug, Kelsey Preston. Also surviving are my brothers, William Zimmerman, Jr. (Pam); David Zimmerman (now LT Mia Tioli) and sisters, Mary (Bill) Pfaff; Lois (Dennis) Ross; Brucette (Richard) Regan; sister-in-law, Jackie Kowalski; and their families, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends; all special to me. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 31, 2011 at Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing, Lori O'Dea officiating, with visitation one-hour prior to service and followed by interment at Delta Center Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Tiffany Funeral Home. Friends may visit and sign the online guestbook at www.tiffanyfuneralhome.com. We have mourned this disease long enough; dwell on the good times and get on with your lives. Love, JP In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, ALS Division, for any research for the cure for ALS. The family wishes to thank Sparrow Hospice House of Mid-Michigan Staff for all of their great care and compassion.

To Kim and the entire family,
Wherever your mothers beautiful soul has been, the love she sewed will flower again and again and again. Love's never lost; and love never ends. You were all wonderful caregivers and brought her the dignity she so richly deserved. I pray that she meets my Carol, that they no-longer suffer from ALS and are the brightest spirits in the "Next Place".

Kim and family, we want you to know that you are in our prayers. ALS is indeed a horrible disease, but she's free now. She'll be waiting to greet you all again someday. You were so fortunate to have her in your life - as was she to have all of you in hers.

As I watched you struggle with this disease, I noticed that it never got the best of you--your innner Courage, Strength, Determination, Passion & Love still persevered and showed people how strong of a woman you were. I marveled at your ability to maintain your humor & your sense of dignity, even when you think it was taken from you. You will be mourned & missed by all who were special enough to be graced by your friendship & love. Your loving niece, Angie
