Martin Bert Winans

Lansing

Passed away peacefully Thursday, October 30, 2014 at the age of 86. Bert was born on February 16, 1928 to the late Martin Sr., and Florence (Johns) Winans in Niagara Falls, NY. He retired from General Motor's in 1990 after displaying his craftsmanship as a Tinsmith in the Maintenance Division. He was a proud WWII United States Army Veteran. Bert was a Mason, a talented bowler, and an avid golfer who enjoyed his time and friends on the 10 cent league. He enjoyed local theatre with his daughter Debbie. Bert was devoted to his faith as a member at Calvary Lutheran Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Gwen Winans (2000) and a sister Eleanor Bunston. He is survived by his loving daughter, Debbie Winans, a brother-in-law, Douglas Bunston, a niece Florence (Don) Saleh and their children Paul (Amanda) and Erica Saleh, and many loving nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church with The Rev. Laura Gerstl officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Palmer Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Delta Chapel. Contributions may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society in memory of Martin. Condolences may be made at www.palmerbush.com

Deb,
Your Dad was a special person who was well liked by all who knew him. I offer my deepest condolences to you on your loss. I had the pleasure of playing golf with him as well as seeing him each week at Prairie Creek. You need to count your blessings that you shared those wonderful years with such a special man. He will be missed by everyone who knew and liked him.

We are sorry to hear about the passing of Bert. We are your neighbors Dave and Rose Vallin at 1315 Ravenswood Drive. He was such a nice and friendly man. I also had the pleasure of working with him at Fisher Body. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Uncle Bert has always made me smile. His love for life and his love for people have always inspired me. When I grow up I wNt to be just like him. I will always remember the pictures of the grass skirt and coconut bra.! Our love and prayers are with you Debbie.
