Michael Greene Obituary

Michael James Greene Lansing Michael James Greene, 62, of Lansing, died Thursday, September 22. He was born to Robert (deceased) and Marcena Greene, on March 23, 1949, in Saginaw Michigan. Mike graduated from Battle Creek, St. Phillip High School in 1967. He entered the Eighty-third Michigan State Police Recruit School and graduated in December, 1972. He loved his work as a State Trooper and earned a Meritorious Service citation in November, 1973. He retired as a Detective Sergeant in March, 1992. Upon retirement he opened Greene's Garage and enjoyed working on cars and restoring his 1968 Corvette. Mike married Terri Linn Harmon on August 5, 2008 and they shared a love for life, family, friends, gardening, the Tigers, the Lions and their cottage at Higgins Lake. He was a loving father to Cheri Lynn (Mike) Kiplinger, Sean (Phyllis) Greene, and step-father to Ryan Harmon; and a proud grandfather of Mickey and Kyle Kiplinger and Declan Greene. Mike is also survived by his mother, Marcena; sister, Linda (Richard) Fawcett; and nieces, Aimee (Jay) Rioux, Alison (Dan) Gray, Nora (Dave) Hall; and six adoring great nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles, Audrey Ryman, Virginia (James) Lewis, Marcel (Dorothy) Black, Mary Ann (Harry) Greene; and twenty-three first cousins. He never met a stranger and will be remembered by his family and friends for his warm smile, easy laugh and his famous "true story" tales. The family is requesting that donations be made to the Special Olympics, Adult Literacy, or the Susan Komen Foundation. A memorial service will be at the Grand Ledge Opera House on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 7:00 p.m.

I met Mike 25 years ago when he and Leo were teaching a self-defense course for State employees. Throughout the years his broad shoulders, supportive soul and HUGE heart brightened many days of mine. Heaven became a whole bunch more fun with the inclusion of Mike Green in it! My heartfelt sympathies go out to his and Terri's families and many, MANY friends. God speed and Semper Fi Michael.

R.I.P. Mike, always felt welcome in your home when I came and played with Sean. Will always remember the stories that you used to tell Sean and I and will always remember the time that you helped me along with Sean on painting my Chevy Nova. Will miss you always even though I lost contact with you and Sean, you are just a person that no one ever forgets.

Mike Greene worked with me in the Enforcement Unit/Haz Mat/Fire Marshal Division. He was a person that never lost a friend MSP or otherwise in his life. Although getting to know Mike fairly well, Retirement (mine) in 1995 did not allow us to keep in touch. However I have many Mike Greene Storys, and freely borrow from many of his quotes to this day. Mike will be missed greatly. D/Lt David T. Smith(Retired)

I offer my heartfelt condolences to Mike and Terri’s family. I had the pleasure to work with Mike from 1984 – 1988 and in our kind of work strong and lasting bonds are formed forever. What a great guy to call a friend! Over the years I was lucky enough to see Mike from time to time and later meet his beautiful wife Terri usually at the annual pig roast. I’ve still got the tee shirt Mike and Terri had made up for the pig roast a couple years back and a great photograph with Mike’s big smile. May God bless them both and their families in these difficult moments.

The world has truly lost one of God's living angels. Mike, you were really someone special and you will be greatly missed by the one's who's lives you've touched. My condolences go out to Sean and the rest of both the Greene and Harmon families. May you have God to lean on, as well as each other in these very sad days ahead. Sean, If you read this, I know it's been awhile since we've seen or spoke to each other, but I've always considered you one of the best friends I've ever had the pleasure of meeting and if you feel the need to reach out to a listening ear, I'm always here for you.
God Bless

Mike was my cousin, and to tell a little "True Story" about Mike, I remember when we were kids and his parents and Linda came to visit us in New Jersey. We couldn't understand why in the world Mike would rub dirt into his brand new white sneakers. Being one of 11 kids, new shoes were a treat, and we kept them clean just as long as possible. But heck, Mike wanted them "broken in" as quickly as possible, and what better way than to grab a handful of dirt and rub it into the shoes! Mike always had a twinkle in his eyes, and a kind word to go with his warm smile. We didn't see him often enough, but looked up to him and admired him from afar, maybe even having a little crush on him when we were kids. He will be missed by all who knew him. May God have mercy on Mike and Terry, and bring healing and peace to his loved ones.

I met, Mike through a long time friend, Terri, his wife. I, too, was a recipient of his "True Story", tales, and enjoyed them even though it some of the time hurt Terri to hear them over again. He was always very welcoming to their home and cottage and not a bad cook either. I will miss both of them and feel the pain of their loss to their families. Marlinda (Missy) Lowery

I will miss Mike. He was a customer of mine at the Knight Cap Restaurant and I and the staff looked forward to his visits. He was just a good guy. I too got to hear his "true stories" and was actually one of them once. My condolences to his and Terri's family.
