Michael Purdy Obituary

Michael Jeffrey Purdy

10/19/1991 - 5/1/2016

Our beloved son died in a hiking accident in Denali National Park, Alaska. Mike was a talented photographer and writer who inspired many people to embrace life. He was a wilderness first responder who enjoyed hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, photography and crafts. He had a spiritual connection with nature and loved the Alaskan wilderness. Mike was there for his second summer as a Zip-Line tour guide. As a youth, Mike was involved in Clinton County 4 -H, St. Therese Cub and Boy Scouts, St. Gerard Youth Group, Waverly Football, Tennis and Lacrosse. He was a 2010 Waverly Valedictorian. Mike graduated from The Chicago Illinois Institute of Technology in 2014 with Honors in Scientific Journalism and Entrepreneurial Studies.

He is survived by his  parents Jeff and Sally Purdy, brother Gabe (Allyson Green and sons Orion and Isaac) brother Simon (Karen Purdy and daughter Nora), beloved sister Monica (Tim DeKorte), girlfriend Nicole Valio (faithful dogs Jasper and Winnie) best friend Shane Ouellette, Grandmother Adele Shultz and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and many friends.

A big thank you to Aunt Peggy Cole, former high school teacher Dan Carr, and family friend Diane Crum for their assistance as we prepared to journey to Alaska, where Mike's remains were scattered in Denali.

A memorial service will be held on May 21st at 5pm in the Waverly High School Auditorium.
