Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lambie Funeral Home - Philadelphia on Feb. 18, 2026.
It is with immense love and profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Maureen Durkin Purdy, affectionately known by her loved ones as Mom, Nan, Mo, and Aunt Reenie, on February 15th, 2026. Born in Philadelphia on August 26th, 1950, Maureen was a tenacious spirit; her life was filled with adventure and love of family and friends.
She was effortlessly glamorous and was often seen with her signature red Revlon lipstick (green tube only, always stored in the freezer) and smelling of Chanel no. 5. No matter how glamorous, she was never stopped from her morning coffee run with pajamas hidden under her jacket and curlers in her hair.
Her love for travel wasn't just a hobby; it was a calling. In her youth, she landed her favorite job as an airline booking agent at TWA, a role that granted her a passport to the world. These years fueled her passion for new cultures and adventure, and she remained close to many of her coworkers after TWA disbanded. She later brought her expertise to Amtrak, where she dedicated many years of service before her well-earned retirement.
While her career took her across oceans and rails, her heart belonged to Wildwood, New Jersey. Summer was her favorite time of year, packed with long beach days reading true crime novels, good cocktails, oysters on the half shell, and never-ending laughs with her giant extended family. Her family was the cornerstone of her life and she was always available for a chat or an unexpected drop in to your house!
Maureen and her daughter Julie (Michael) were best friends and spent time together nearly every day. She was an incredibly involved and loving Nan to her grandchildren Tori Wainwright (Gary) and Keenan as well as her great grandsons Cole and Gary. Maureen will be deeply missed by her siblings Eileen, Sheila (Phil), Nancy (John), Annmarie (George), and Tom (Virginia). Aunt Reenie will be forever remembered by her many nieces and nephews, Tim, Craig, Kevin, Peter, Sarah, Rachel, Alison, Jake, Kylie, Toby, Cooper, and Carter along with their families. Endless cousins and friends will also miss Maureen deeply.
Predeceased by her parents, James Durkin and Marie O'Donnell Rinehart along with her nephew, Michael, and best friend, Eileen Dougherty, Maureen leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and strength that will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Relatives and friends may greet Maureen's family on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 from 9:30 am - 10:15 am at St. Cecilia Church, 535 Rhawn Street,
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19111, her Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. Interment will be private at the request of her family.
As we remember Maureen's spirited life, we encourage you to share your memories, stories, and photos on her memorial page. These shared moments will serve as a comforting reminder of the remarkable woman Maureen was, and of the indelible mark she left on each of our lives.
