William Johns Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lambie Funeral Home - Philadelphia on Mar. 3, 2026.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son and brother, William David Johns III (Bill/Billy/David), on February 17, 2026 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Bill was 35 years old, just shy of his 36th birthday. He was born February 19, 1990 in Vineland, New Jersey.

Bill was raised in Bakersfield, California where he attended Standard Middle School and North High School. Bill had an active childhood and strong ties to his community growing up. In middle school, he competed in oral language festival (presentation of interpretation of a published literary work) and participated in the middle school science fair, earning recognition from teachers and peers. Bill was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Bakersfield and was actively involved in Scouts BSA (formerly "Boy Scouts"). He and his three (3) siblings took many family summer road trips and camping excursions in his youth.

Bill was a talented athlete and enjoyed playing soccer, baseball, football, basketball, and track and field. A standout javelin thrower, Bill qualified for and competed in the USA and AAU Junior Olympic championships from 2001-2006. In 2004, he achieved personal-best 5th out of 24 and 7th out of 25 results in the javelin at the AAU and USA junior championships, respectively. Bill also participated in Strikers Youth Soccer, a Bakersfield competitive travel soccer team.

As an adult, Bill spent several years living and working in eastern Tennessee, where his mother and step-father live. He worked in maintenance with rental properties and built manufactured homes. Bill enjoyed hands-on labor and developed many skills, earning professional certifications as a pool and spa technician while working maintenance for rental cabins in Tennessee.

Bill flourished in Tennessee and developed a real love for life. He loved hiking and being outdoors in the Tennessee hills and mountains, and he developed a real love for life in general. Bill grew strong bonds with his mother, step-father, and others who were close to him and loved him during those years.

Bill is survived by his loving mother, Jeanne Marie Moore (Johns), step-father Ronnie Moore, Del Rio TN, sister Jessica Johns-Collins (Randall Collins) Gloucester City NJ, sister Cheri Morin (Sarah Morin) Key West FL, brother Kevin Johns (Andrea Johns) Bakersfield CA, and step brother Ethan Moore Los Angeles CA, nieces Addie Morin & Alesana Johns, nephews Ben Morin, Ezra Collins and Syrus Johns. Bill will also be missed by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, family and friends who loved him. Bill is preceded in death by his father, William David Johns, Jr, paternal grandparents William David Johns & Mary Johns, maternal grandparents Steve Magyar & JoAnn Magyar, cousins Wayne Soley and Ashley Johns, and his beloved pet, Tyson.

Life had not been easy for Bill in recent years, but he always found a way to remind you of his humor, quick-wit, and love. Bill was deeply loved and will be truly missed by all who knew him.

At the request of the family, services will be held at a later date. We invite you to share your photos and memories with the family. Condolences can be sent directly to his mother, Jeanne Moore.
